The People have Spoken!
The People of Massachusetts have Spoken!
I would like to publicly congratulate Senator Scott Brown, the new Republican Senator from Massachusetts, who will be the 41st vote against the Democrats plans to push their programs on the American people, his vote will be enough to stop them in their tracks, and force them to hear the voice of the people—this is a huge victory for the Republican Party and the American people!
Senator Brown’s victory is a sign of hope in Massachusetts, for the nation, and here in Texas. The surging momentum behind his campaign surprised even his own supporters. Who would have thought a year ago that a Republican would ever have a shot at, what the Democrat’s shamefully called, “Ted Kennedy’s seat”? But the people have spoken, and the writing is on the wall! They don’t want big government, and big spending; they want to keep their money; they don’t want special privileges for terrorists; they don’t want intellectual charlatans running our country through back-room deals with special interest groups—they are fed up with talk of change, and they want real change! The time is ripe! The people want their country back!
But let us be clear. This victory does not mean we have no work to do in Texas; Scott Brown’s victory does not guarantee that we won’t lose Republican seats in Texas. This tremendous event is not an occasion for us to rest. No! It is a call to action!
There is a rising tide of discontent with the Democratic leadership; but we cannot just hope that tide will simply roll Republicans into office. We have to be prepared to harness the tide, to control and direct the wave, if we will ride it into power. Let us take some lessons from Senator Brown’s campaign: the leadership in that campaign was excellent, it was involved with every level of the party, and harnessed the power of the growing tea party movement; he reached out to all conservatives, not just establishment Republicans, but young conservatives and independents who were fed up with the sham government in Washington. He utilized many of the very tactics that worked against us in the last presidential election: effective use of the internet, a message of change, youthful energy, and strong grassroots involvement.
This race has proven beyond doubt that the people want conservative change—if we can win in Massachusetts, we can win anywhere!—but it has also shown us the way to affect that change: through hard work, through renewed energy, through broad financial support, dynamic leadership, and a strong, principled, conservative platform. These are the very changes I plan to bring to the Republican Party of Texas.
The people are with us; but that does not mean we have less work to do—it means we have more! Texas is in a position to remain a conservative stronghold, and a leader in national conservative politics; but we must strengthen and revitalize the Party to ensure that happens. Currently, we are unprepared as a Party to capitalize on the rising wave of conservative sentiment.
In the words of our Lord, “The harvest is plentiful; but the workers are few.” Let us gather our workers, with new and effective leadership to guide us to the harvest.
Scott Brown has shown the nation what conservative politics can accomplish in one of the most liberal states in the nation; he has raised the bar. Now, let us raise the bar even higher, and show the state and the nation what the Republican Party of Texas can accomplish when we work together!
Congratulations to Scott Brown, to the people of Massachusetts, and to all conservative Americans—this is a victory for us all!
