Mechler Congratulates Munisteri
In a stirring speech at the Republican state convention Saturday, Tom Mechler, who was running for RPT Chairman, ripped off his Mechler sticker, and put a Steve Munisteri sticker on in its place, endorsing Munisteri as the future leader of the Party. Munisteri won the race, beating out incumbent Cathie Adams--the first time in recent memory that an incumbent has been defeated. Melinda Fredricks, who was running with Mechler, won Vice-Chairman, and will be working with Munisteri.
“I’m very exciting about Steve and Melinda,” Tom said, “They both bring so much to the table. The Party is going in the right direction. Congratulations to both of them.”
Mechler and Munisteri have been in constant contact since the election, discussing plans for the revitalization of the Party. They have found common ground, and are eager to work together. Mechler said, “After the election, Steve asked me to roll up my sleeves and get to work with him—and that’s just what we’re doing.” The two challengers of incumbent Cathie Adams both campaigned on plans for fiscal reform and Party unity, and they are now working together in a sincere effort to bring the Party together.
Two days after the election, Mechler said “I spoke with Steve on Sunday, and told him that I am 100% committed to supporting him, and doing anything I can do help him be successful, so we can rebuild our team, and win big in November.”
Mechler is also urging his supporters to support Munisteri: “I’ve been in contact with all my staff and my supporters, and I let everyone know how important it is that we all throw our effort behind Steve. I’m excited about making this Party great again.”
Mechler, who campaigned as a “servant-leader” said he hasn’t lost anything, but got exactly what he wanted—the RPT will now be one, unified, conservative Party for all of Texas.
“God bless Steve and Melinda in their work,” Tom said, “this is just what the Party needs, and I’m happy to be a part of it.”
