Party Financial Summary and Analysis
The following information is a summary of the trends, practices and resulting financial conditions of the Republican Party of Texas (RPT) relative to other States’ Parties over the last three years. All information was obtained via http://www.fec.gov (the Federal Election Commission) and compiled into spreadsheet format. {Click Here}
The spreadsheets provide a synopsis of the party finances in 2007 and 2009. The "2007 Comparison" and "2009 Comparison" worksheets compare the contributions, disbursements, debt, and cash-on-hand for the RPT, the Republican parties of Georgia and Alabama, and the Democratic Party of Texas.
To make sure that we were comparing “apples to apples”, numbers were adjusted according to the donor base for each state. The last comparison on the "2009 Comparison" worksheet breaks down contributions to the four organizations (RPT, Republican Party of Georgia, Republican Party of Alabama, and the Democratic Party of Texas) as cents/voter in the 2008 general election. For example, 4,479,328 people in Texas voted for John McCain in the 2008 general election. Contributions for January 2009 to the Republican Party of Texas were $271,875.58. This represents a contribution of 6.07 cents for every McCain voter. Comparing 2007 versus 2009 by "cents donated per voter" shows that the Republican Party of Texas is down 22.2%, to only 4.15 cents per voter in contributions, while the other states show increases of 15.69% in Georgia, and 9.84% in Alabama.
This information clearly shows how out of touch the Party has become with the needs and concerns of our base. It also reflects the donors’ lack of faith in the RPT’s ability to deliver results. The Republican Party of Texas should be a paragon of political finance, setting an example for every other Republican Party in the United States. We need to restore the faith of our donors in the Party, and at the same time reach out to new donors. We need to stop taking on debt. We need to start delivering results. We have all the tools and resources to be the most effective Republican Party in the Country—now we need to elect a Chairman who knows how to use those tools to strengthen the Party, and move us in the right direction. That man is Tom Mechler.
Tom has the support of the donors. Tom has proven time and again, in business and in politics, that he can bring people together, consolidate and acquire resources, and build a strong, lasting base for success.Tom delivers results. The writing is on the wall—we need someone who knows how to read it. It’s time to move in the right direction. It’s time to elect Tom Mechler.
