8) Expand accountability by the SREC of RPT activities and expenditures. I want the 62 members of the SREC to have a larger role in governance of the party. Transparency is vital to the long-term health of our party. I welcome that kind of oversight. **************************************************************************** Much of the reason the Republican Party of Texas is over half a million dollars in debt is that the RPT leadership has kept the SREC in the dark about expenditures. Each year, the SREC approves a budget, but the actual spending is never approved, often never even seen, by the SREC. Right now, the Chairman spends as she wishes, and when the Party comes up massively in debt, says we shouldn’t play the “blame game.” I don’t like to play the “blame game” either—but I call a spade a spade. And our current spending is out of control. That’s no secret. That’s why at the last SREC meeting, we approved three month balanced budget, to put a quick stop to the increasing debt. 7) Shore up candidate recruitment. I will hit the road in targeted races to recruit the best candidates possible for the 2010 election cycle, which will determine which party draws the legislative and congressional lines for the next decade. I will work to find fresh, conservative faces who epitomize the future of Texas, and who will lead us there. **************************************************************************** The purpose of the Republican Party of Texas is to elect candidates. 6) Strengthen our alliance with elected officials from the courthouse to the state house. Yes, we need to hold Republicans accountable who campaign as conservatives and govern as liberals. But, we also need to reach out to Republican elected officials, and let them know we have their back when they advance conservative principles. Let’s re-build bridges with our candidates, aggressively funding and supporting their campaigns. Counterfeit Conservatives

No more than twenty percent of Texans are liberal; yet almost fifty percent of the Texas House is Democratic. It is unreasonable to think that the liberal ideals of the Democratic Party appeal to almost half of Texans—and the Democrats know that. That is why many Democratic representatives in Texas campaign under the guise of moderate (or even conservative!) principles; it’s the only way they’ll get elected—and they know that. But moderate Democratic campaigns rarely result in moderate representatives, even if the legislator really is somewhat moderate. No matter what any given Democrat may believe, the Party is a liberal party at its core; and the true, unabashed liberals have a firm majority in the caucus.
